Terms of Use.

Baton connects students who have a room to pass on with students who need one. That is all it does. Baton is not a landlord, broker, agent, or property manager, and it is never a party to any sublease, lease transfer, or other agreement between users.

You must be 18 or older and sign in with a school email address that ends in .edu. One account per person. Keep your account to yourself.

Baton confirms that each account controls a .edu email address, either through an email link or through a school Google sign-in. That is the only thing we check.

We do not confirm anyone's identity or current enrollment. We do not inspect listings or properties, review leases, run background checks, or confirm that a lister is allowed to sublet. Nothing on Baton means a person or a place has been approved by us.

When you publish a listing, you confirm that:

• your lease or landlord allows you to sublet or transfer the place, and you will get any consent your lease requires;
• the details and photos are accurate and the photos are yours to use;
• you will take the listing down once the place is no longer available.

Listings must follow fair housing laws. Do not state a preference for or against anyone based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, family status, or any other protected characteristic. We may remove listings or accounts that break these terms.

Any sublease, rent, deposit, or other arrangement is strictly between the students involved and, where it applies, their landlord. Baton never holds, sends, or receives rent or deposits, and it does not write or review housing paperwork.

Do your own homework before you commit: tour in person or by video, never wire a deposit for a place you have not seen, use a written sublease, and confirm the landlord allows the sublet.

Browsing, posting, and messaging are free. Baton may offer optional paid extras, such as boosting a listing. The price is always shown before you pay, and payments are handled by Stripe. Paying for an extra never affects who can message whom. If something goes wrong with a purchase, email us and we will sort it out.

No scams, fake listings, harassment, spam, or collecting other users' information. Do not use Baton for anything illegal. If you see something off, use the report link on the listing or conversation, and block anyone you do not want to hear from.

Baton is provided as it is. We do not promise that any listing is accurate, that any user is who they say they are, or that any arrangement will work out. To the fullest extent the law allows, Baton is not responsible for losses that come from dealings between users, including anything that happens at a property or with money exchanged off the platform.

You can stop using Baton at any time and delete your account from your Account page. We may suspend accounts that break these terms. If we update these terms, we will change the date at the top, and continuing to use Baton means you accept the update.
